Srinagar – Minister for Medical Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, R.S. Chib today said that the Coalition government headed by Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is committed to provide better medical facilities to the common people and in this connection already a number of steps have been taken by way of construction of basic infrastructure in the shape of new Health Institutions, equipped with basic facilities in all the three regions of the State.
The Minister was addressing a huge gathering after inaugurating of Sarai Building at SMHS Hospital, Srinagar, coming at a cost of Rs. 4.98 crore.
Chib was informed that till now Rs. 4.80 crore has been spent on the construction of the building comprising of five stories with 30 rooms including 16 paid rooms with bathrooms and pantrys.
The Advisor to Chief Mubarak Gul, concerned MLA and Chairperson State Women Commission, Shamima Firdosh, Commissioner Secretary Health, Manoj Kumar Dewvidi, Principal Government Medical College, Srinagar, Dr. Rafiq Pompori, Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent of SMHS Hospital, MD, JKPCC and other dignitaries and Doctors were present on the occasion.
Earlier, the Minister went round the newly constructed Attendants Sarai and interacted with the Doctors and JKPCC Officials and enquired about arrangements of heating system of the rooms as winter season has started. He directed the concerned agencies for taking immediate steps for making the heating system operational for keeping the rooms warm so that the attendants and patients may not feel any in conveyance in the winter months. He said that the building can accommodate 150 attendants and will provide necessary facilities to those far flung attendants who face difficulties in getting accommodation in the city.
The Minister said that associated hospitals and their staff face tremendous pressure of patients and added that since there is not any better option in the private sector so public sector has to face a number of challenges for providing better medical facilities to the people. He said that during winter months the people of the Valley faces difficulties due to cool weather and shortage of medicines but he assured that the government is very much alive to mitigate these problems and will make every efforts to provide relief to people on this account.
Referring the demands raised by MLA Mubark Gul and Shamima Ferdosh regarding filling up the vacancies of the SMHS and other associated hospital, he said that the matter would be taken with the concerned authorities. However, he said that the process of appointment of Class-IV employees would be taken up soon and preference would be given to local applicant.
Earlier, while addressing to the gathering, Gul thanked the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Chib for providing funds and wholehearted support for the construction of basic infrastructure to providing better facilities to the patients and their attendants.
Shamima Firdous also spoke on the occasion and congratulated the people. She said that the newly constructed Sarai will be a mile stone for redressing the problems of the attendents and paitents particularly those belonging to far flung areas. However she stressed on maintaining the Sarai in better way and proper sanitation which is basic component of keeping good health.
