Directs For Fast Tracking Measures To Remove Pantha-Chowk Bottleneck
Srinagar – Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah Thursday reviewed the progress of work on four-laning of Jammu-Srinagar Highway and stressed on removing bottlenecks on account of acquisition of land, payment of compensation and pending cases in the courts.
“Completion of this road will not only help keep the highway open throughout ensuring reduction in travel time but also help to generate more economic activities in the state,” Omar said chairing a high-level review meeting.
Officers of National Highway Authority of India also attended the meeting and presented details of the construction work under execution at various places on this prestigious highway project, an official spokesman said.
Taking brief on the progress of road length between Srinagar to Banihal, the CM directed for fast tracking measures to de-congest Panthachowk near here.
“Joint efforts need to be taken to ensure smooth progress on the construction of four-lane Highway from Lakhanpur to Srinagar,” he said.
Omar reviewed the status of progress on construction of tunnels between Qazigund and Banihal and between Chenani and Nashri on the Highway – the only road linking Kashmir with rest of the country.
