Srinagar – Dipa Dixit, Member, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), New Delhi, called on N. N. Vohra, Governor, at Raj Bhavan here today.
During the meeting, Dixit discussed with the Governor several important issues relating to the protection and promotion of child rights. She briefed the Governor in detail about the activities of NCPCR in J&K which are aimed at securing the child rights. Other issues which came up for discussion during the meeting included juvenile justice system and the need for setting up a State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in J&K.
The Governor stressed the importance of enlarging awareness in regard to the available safeguards for the protection of child rights. He observed that children in need of special care and protection, particularly those in distress, belonging to the disadvantaged sections of society, and those affected by terrorism and other unfortunate circumstances, require very special attention.
