Jammu – In an obvious rebuff to the mainstream and separatist leaders, who have been demanding that Amarnath yatra affairs be entrusted to Kashmiri Pandits, Soan Kashmir Front, an organization representing the latter, Tuesday urged the National Conference-led government to start construction of track from Pahalgam to the cave shrine on priority basis to avoid pilgrim casualties.
“We impress upon the government to initiate action for construction of track from Pahalgam to Amarnath cave shrine on priority basis so as to avoid casualties of the pilgrims,” Soan Kashmir Front patron, S L Pandita, said at Jagti Migrant camp in outskirts of Jammu city today.
During the past years, Pandita said, many pilgrims had lost their lives while traveling on this hilly track which has necessitated construction of a proper road from Pahalgam to Amarnath shrine.
“We also demand construction of Yatri Bhawans along the track to facilitate smooth night stay for pilgrims during their yatra,” he said, alleging that those objecting to the road construction to the cave had vested interests and “should not be tolerated”.
He appealed the government to provide a safe and secure place in Kashmir Valley for permanent rehabilitation of the Kashmiri Pandits besides granting one-time compensation for the losses suffered by the migrants during past 23 years. (Agencies)
