“India Obfuscating Politics With Trade, Tourism And Sports”

Srinagar – Accusing Indian rulers of provoking Kashmiri youth, the chairman of the JKLF, Muhammad Yasin Malik, on Tuesday came down heavily on New Delhi for trying to smother politics with tourism, trade and sports.

In a hard-hitting speech at the shrine of Hazrat Shah-e-Hamadan in Khanaqah-e-Mu’alla, Malik lambasted “negative and regressive” Indian policy, saying that it was driving the new generation of Kashmiris to violence.

“The reality of Jammu and Kashmir cannot change by buying apples in Lal Chowk or sightseeing in the city,” Malik said in an obvious reference to the union home minister’s shopping trip in central Srinagar.

“The issue cannot be resolved by issuing everything OK statements in New Delhi,” he said.

“Indian rulers are provoking Kashmiri youth by coming here with artificial measures,” he said. “This is bound to have a negative impact on the situation.”

“The statements of Indian rulers actually reflect a negative mentality aimed at inflicting a sense of defeat on Kashmiris to pin them to the wall,” he said.

“What, after all, do they want to achieve by mixing tourism, trade and even sports with politics?” he said.

“Such rhetoric will achieve Indian rulers nothing. It only serves to drive Kashmiri youth to violence, which would be a grave threat to regional and global peace and security,” he said.

“Circumstances and good sense demands resolving the Kashmir issue on priority with the active participation of Kashmiris themselves,” he said.

ON SHAH-E-HAMADAN

Touching upon the life and conduct of Hazrat Shah-e-Hamadan, Malik said that the saint had transformed the spiritual, social, political and economic life of Kashmiris with his role and character.

“One of the greatest bequests of the saint is that he equipped us with skills and crafts, and was successful in giving us economic stability,” he said.

“But it is unfortunate that we have repudiated the legacy of our spiritual figures and earned disgrace and decrepitude for ourselves,” he said.

“Through our own stupidity and incompetence, we have frittered away the economic freedom the saint had bestowed us with,” he said.

“Every young Kashmiri seems to chasing government jobs today, having forgotten even the meaning of self-reliance and economic independence,” he said.

“Our fore-bearers have taught us unity and brotherhood, and those who promote sectarian strife in the name of saints and spiritual figures are manifest enemies of Islam and Kashmir,” he said.

“We should strive to regain the spiritual and religious values imparted by our fore-bearers, and not lose our mutual brotherhood and unity,” he said.(Observer News Service)
