Srinagar Giving away prizes to the participants of Panasonic Golf Tournament, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Sunday said that sports tourism has great potential in the State adding that development of Golf Courses in the three regions of the State provide opportunity to national and international golfers to play in varied climatic conditions and relish the scenic splendour of the State.
Omar Abdullah said that various golf tournaments held here this year exhibit the potential of the State to hold such events and attract the golf players from across the country. He said this trend needs to be further strengthened.
The Chief Minister said that world class golf courses at Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Srinagar and upcoming ones at Jammu and Leh will complete the States golf circuit enabling the concerned departments to chalk out interesting tournaments for golfers at all the places. He said the 9-hole Golf Course is being upgraded to 18-holes at Sidhra, Jammu and the development of Golf Course at Leh has commenced.
The Chief Minister said that his government is paying due attention to encourage various sports and relate sports activities with tourism. This would not only help to showcase States captivating natural beauty but also its high potential for different sports activities, he said.
Minister of State for Tourism, Nasir Aslam Wani was also present on the occasion.
