Qasmi delivers Hyderi memorial lecture
Srinagar – Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture & Languages (JKAACL) Saturday organised a memorial lecture on the present status of Urdu research.
Dedicated to the memory of one of the tallest Urdu researchers of modern times, Prof, Akbar Hyderi, the lecture was delivered by noted writer, scholar and Professor Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University, Prof. Abul Kalam Qasmi.
The Akbar Hyderi Memorial Lecture on Urdu Tehqeeq Aalmi Maiyar Ke Hawalay Se (Urdu Research and the World Standard) was the first memorial lecture ever organised by the Academy. It may be recalled that during the condolence meeting organized by the Academy to mourn the demise of Dr. Hyderi on 20th September 2012, the Secretary JKAACL, Khalid Bashir Ahmad, had announced that Akbar Hyderi Memorial Lecture will be organized by the Academy in memory of the renowned researcher who belonged to Kashmir but whose fame transcended the boundaries of India.
The function was presided over by well known Urdu critic and former Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University, Prof. Hamidi Kashmiri while Chief Information Commissioner, GR Sufi attended it as chief guest. Head Department of Urdu, Kashmir University Prof. Majeed Muzmir was the guest of honour.
In his presidential remarks, Prof. Hamidi lauded the Academy for organising the lecture and said that such a thing was needed to highlight the remarkable contribution of Prof. Hyderi to Urdu language and literature. He appreciated the Secretary Academy for making the institution a hub of literary activities.
Describing Prof. Hyderi as a doyen of Urdu language and literature GR Sufi said that writings of the late scholar and writer were of high calibre and needed to be highlighted.
In his remarks Prof. Majeed Muzmir said that Akbar Hyderi was a name in Urdu literature and he had made unforgettable contribution to Urdu language.
Earlier in his welcome address Secretary JKAACL, Khalid Bashir Ahmad said that the contribution of Prof. Hyedri to Urdu language and literature was huge and the endeavour of the Academy was to highlight it in an adequate manner.
Several writers, scholars and researchers attended the memorial lecture. Prominent ones were Ghulam Nabi Khayal, Noor Shah, Rafeeq Raaz, Ayaz Rasool Nazki, Hamdam Kashmiri, Bashir Ahmad Shaker, Nasir Mirza, Mohiudin Qadi Zor, Dr. Altaf Anjum, Mushtaq Hyder Nasir, and Dr. Nazir Azad.
