Srinagar – The State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) on Thursday caught a top officer of the Sarva Shikhsha Abhiyan (SSA) Budgam red-handed accepting a bribe from a contractor.
An SVO spokesman said that assistant engineer Shahnawaz Ahmad was caught red- handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2000 from a contractor who had constructed a building for the government middle school at Raithan in Budgam under the SSA.
Against a total billed amount of Rs 1, 65,000, the contractor had been paid an amount of Rs 90,000 only and when the contractor asked for clearing the rest of the billed amount, the AE had allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000, the spokesperson added.
He said the complainant (name withheld) arranged an amount of Rs 2000 and informed the Vigilance Organization, after which a trap was laid and the engineer caught red handed while accepting the bribe.
The accused has been arrested and the SVO has filed a case under FIR 30/2012 against him in Vigilance Organisation Kashmir
