Srinagar Oct 16: Reiterating its stand the National Conference Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq said that there will be no letup in the partys struggle to gradually see-off the laws like AFSPA from the State which have served their purpose and to make people relish the fruits of peace
The fact is that the army has not needed to operate in Srinagar and its surrounding areas for years now, we have dealt with militancy either using the J&K Police or the central paramilitary force so why do you want to hold on to the powers if you are not operating said National Conference Spokesman Tanvir Sadiq while interacting with intellectuals and academician at the Party Headquarters today.
AFSPA gives them powers beyond comprehension and to live under this umbrella wherein there is no recourse to justice if something goes wrong. he added.
They have the power to enter your home, they have the power to enter your shops they dont need your permission if its locked they can break it, they can stop you were they want, they dont even have to establish the grounds to do that and if someone is killed in the course of that action there is no recourse to justice said NC Spokesman The cases like the Machil and Pathribal resonate here and they show how bad these sort of powers can be said Tanvir
The army has done a commendable job and we are never suggesting that we take all the powers away from every corner of the state, we believe that there are still areas where we have trouble and where army is operating but certainly from areas where the army doesnt need to operate why do they need to hold on to those powers said Sadiq
You always have the right to self defense and do not need the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) to act in self defense said Tanvir You act in self defense in any corner of the country so why should Jammu and Kashmir or part of Kashmir be any different he added
When the Home minister of India can freely go around the city and interact with people in Srinagar, NC spokesman said that it proves that things have started normalizing and people should get to taste the fruit of peace as well
The NC Spokesman while emphasizing on the commitment to revoke AFSPA said The party is committed to bring normalcy in the Valley and it will be during the Omar Abdullah led government that all laws like AFSPA will be removed come what may”
