Srinagar – The Faculty of Education, University of Kashmir, is organizing a two- day academic workshop on identification of Areas of priority and branches of knowledge necessary for promoting school & college education in the State, on 17th & 18th of October, 2012.
While giving details about the two-day workshop Dean and Head Faculty of Education Prof Nighat Basu said that the workshop will try to identify areas of priority in school and higher education in the state so as to suggest measures for bringing about qualitative improvement in teaching-learning process both at school & college level in the state.
She said that the objectives of the workshop would be to update and restructure the existing course of study at school and higher education level and to identify job oriented courses for schools & higher education institutions in the State.
Prof Nighat Basu said that there will be six working groups for higher education & nine groups for school education which would be comprised of eminent resource persons who have been invited from the different prestigious institutions of the country like Aligarh Muslim University, UP., National Council of Educational Research & Training, University of Chandigarh, Punjabi University, Patiala, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Regional Institute of Education, Ajmer, Board of School Education, College of Education, Srinagar, Private B.Ed Colleges, DIETS, SIE, NIT, University of Kashmir.
The six working groups for higher education include working group on curriculum and instruction, assessment and evaluation, information & communication technology (ICT)/special needs, quality of teacher training and professional development, innovations in teaching- learning and life long learning/extension/outreach activities/ODL.
The nine working groups constituted for school education include curriculum and instruction, assessment and evaluation, vocationalisation of courses, early childhood care & education, universalisation of elementary education, secondary education, ICT /special needs, quality of teacher training and professional development and innovations in teaching learning.
Prof Basu said that the valedictory function of the two-day workshop will be held at Gandhi Bhawan, University of Kashmir, Srinagar on October 18, 2012 at 4.00 pm in which Abdul Gani Malik, Minister for Higher Education will be the chief guest and will deliver the valedictory address.
She said that Prof Talat Ahmad, Vice-Chancellor, University of Kashmir will preside over the function and Prof. Syed Fayaz, Registrar, University of Kashmir, will attend as a special invitee to the workshop.
