BEIRUT Hundreds of people took to the streets of Beirut yesterday for two separate rallies, one expressing support for the government in neighbouring Syria while the other one against it and calling for its dismissal.
Supporters of Syrias President Bashar al Assad staged a demonstration to thank Russia and China for their support to his government, a journalist reported.
Demonstrators held posters bearing slogans including Thank you Russia! and Lebanon for ever with Assads Syria, and also chanted slogans against those nations which support the anti-establishment uprising.
