Srinagar: Independent MLA Langate, Er Rasheed, on Wednesday charged the state government of being completely insensitive towards the dog menace in the city and elsewhere in the valley and said that in Kashmir dogs were treated better than human beings.
Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, he said, Many people have lost their lives due to dog bites while hundreds have been injured. The tragic part of the story is that adequate medicines and vaccine are not being kept available in the primary health centers and other hospitals across the state.
He said that life of innocent citizens including children, men and women had become extremely vulnerable due to the massive increase in dog population
He said that recently 46 people were critically injured in one day in his constituency. The MLA alleged that rights of animals particularly those of dogs are much more protected than those of human beings in Jammu and Kashmir. He asked law minister present in the House that if government cant do anything to protect its citizens at least it can bring a law that should bring rights of humans at par with those of animals, especially dogs.
In July this year, the MLA had threatened to put hundreds of stray dogs in the courtyards of ministers and bureaucrats. Later, he had planned to take a hundred stray dogs into the Secretariat to awaken the callous government against the dog menace.
