Srinagar – Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon has sanctioned cash reward of Rs. 1,000 alongwith commendation certificate in favour of Sajad Ahmed Bhat S/o Bashir Ahmed Bhat R/o Tankipora, who risked his life to extinguish an LPG cylinder, which caught fire in the house of Mohammed Sultan Shagoo S/o Ghulam Rasool Shagoo at Dedikadal, Tankipora, Srinagar near D.C. office. The incident occurred at 11am today, when the womenfolk raised an alarm, after the gas cylinder developed leak in the regulator and caught fire. Sajad, a 20 year old youth, who was nearby, realised that if the fire was not brought under control it could endanger the entire area. He ran to their rescue and without caring for himself, he carried the burning gas cylinder and extinguished it with sand. Sajad had learnt from newspaper reports that disaster management taught people to extinguish LPG fire with sand or using a wet blanket. The people of the area were all praise for him. Head Disaster Management, Aamir Ali, who also visited the spot, has recommended Inspector General of Police Civil Defence & Home Guards Yoginder Koul, to enlist Sajad as a civil defence volunteer so that he can be provided proper training in fire fighting and first aid.
