Srinagar – To make available the better market facilities and to encourage the artisans for producing quality handicraft products, District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Mr. Baseer Ahmad Khan convened a joint meeting of officers and representatives of Associations of artisans of the district here today.
Among others the meeting was attended by Officers of Tourism, Irrigation, PWD, Handicrafts departments and Joint Director Planning, Srinagar.
It was given out that efforts are being made for developing market facilities which shall provide better options and facilities to tourists especially the availability of Pashmina shawl and other handmade carpets to boost handicraft activities.
DDC urged the officers to install the street lights besides the repairs of lanes and drains, maintenance of cleanliness in the areas besides take up the macadamization of 2 km road length between Nawakadal to cement bridge.
The meeting was informed that as many as 7000 artisans have been registered in the district.
The DDC impressed upon the representatives of artisans to coordinate with the concerned departments to avail the benefits of the incentives being made available to the artisans for improving their skill and crafting the items with better market demand.
