The regularisation of the SPOs had been carried out on the basis of their performance in anti-militancy operations and sports events, the chief minister said in a written reply in the assembly today.
In the Kashmir region, 331 SPOs had been recruited in the Srinagar district in the past two years, 49 in Budgam, 88 in Gandarbal, 133 in Baramulla, 194 in Sopore, 72 bin Bandipur, 220 in Kupwara, and 107 in Handwara.
Similarly, 146 SPOs were recruited in the Anantnag district, 59 in Pulwama, 52 in Shopian, 51 in Kulgam and 54 in Awanipur, the government said.
The chief minister said that a proposal to enhance the monthly stipend of SPOs had been forwarded to the union home ministry, and last month the centre had been requested once again to grant its approval for the raise.
