Says LPG Shortage Bound To Make Wintry Conditions Harsher People In Kashmir
Srinagar – J&K Peoples Conference Chairman Sajjad Lone has said the shortage of cooking gas is bound to adversely affect every family.
He said the LPG shortage and the cap on the number of subsidized cylinders are bound to make wintry conditions harsher for people in Kashmir.
It is time that the political parties stop treating every issue as a political issue and drowning it (the LPG issue) in a vicious versions of multiple rhetoric. The shortage of LPG cooking gas is a human issue which is bound to impact every family.
We need to come out with a solution to counter the situation emerging out of stricter rationing guidelines set by the oil and gas companies, he said in a statement issued here.
The PC Chairman while calling for addressing the consumers problems, suggested to what he said cross-subsidizing.
The government could increase the number of cylinders for families who are on the margins of the poverty line. The rich and elite could meanwhile get into the habit of paying up. The reality is that subsidized LPG is meant for the poor not for the rich. Let us set up a system which facilitates the poor getting their due in terms of subsidized LPG, in excess of the six stipulated cylinders. The rich could get unrestricted access to LPG in the open market with an additional mark up which covers up for the subsidies borne by the state government, he explained.
“One-size-fits-all measures, charging the rich and the poor at the same rate is an anti-poor, pro-rich policy and the cap if anything could be a wake up alarm, he said.
