Srinagar – Minister for Higher Education, Labour and Employment . Abdul Gani Malik today said that relevance of Mathematics is extremely important for fulfilling requirements of the society and at the same time Science and Technology is incomplete without Mathematics.
The Minister was speaking on the inaugural address on a Seminar organized by S. P. College here today. The title of the seminar was The Role of Mathematics in Developing the Creative Thinking, and during the two technical sessions, more than 16 papers were presented with different abstractions by the faculty members of the Department of Mathematics, University of Kashmir, NIT, Islamic University of Science and Technology and various other colleges.
Malik said that an institute needs to be set up in Srinagar where advanced studies, research and latest trends would be deliberated upon, thereby popularizing the subject and providing an opportunity to young generation to study Mathematics thoroughly.
He said that a Committee will be constituted to organize an International Conference in the state in which Mathematics experts across the globe would attend.
Earlier, Principal of the College, Dr. N. A. Gilkar in his welcome address said that this is a concluding part of the series of events organized by the Department of Mathematics, S. P. College to celebrate the National year of Mathematics-2012, in memory of Mathematics Genius Srinavasa Ramaniyan.
Prof. Gilkar said that the college will continue to organize such functions for extending maximum benefit to the students of the subject through experts and academicians. He thanked the Chief Guest for participating in the seminar and for encouraging the organizers.
The introduction of the topic was presented by the organizing Secretary Prof. Assia Sidiqui, Head of Department Mathematics which was followed by key note address through power point presentation by Dr. Fozia of Islamic University of Science and Technology.
The Minister awarded certificates of participation among the students who had taken part in the events held earlier in the college.
