Tehran – A prominent Bahraini political activist censured certain foreign states for aiding Manama in suppressing peaceful protests in his country, and said the Bahraini people are not only fighting the al-Khalifa rulers but also their Saudi, US, British and Israeli backers.
“The al-Khalifa regime was almost toppled after one month from the revolution but Saudi Arabia interfered with its army and prevented the downfall of the regime and the US also clearly supported the al-Khalifa regime,” Head of al-Shabab (Youth) Movement Saeed al-Shihabi said in a press conference in Tehran on Thursday.
He also condemned the Saudi and US forces as well as the Israeli Mossad and British spies for assisting the Bahraini regime in suppressing the popular uprising, and said the Bahraini people are now in a battle against four other powers in addition to the al-Khalifa dynasty, including the Saudi occupying troops, the US Fifth Fleet, Mossad and British spies.
Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February 2011, calling for an end to the Al Khalifa dynasty’s over-40-year rule, end of discrimination, establishment of justice and a democratically-elected government as well as freedom of detained protesters.
Violence against the defenseless people escalated after a Saudi-led conglomerate of police, security and military forces from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states – Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Qatar – were dispatched to the tiny Persian Gulf kingdom on March 13, 2011, to help Manama crack down on peaceful protestors.
So far, tens of people have been killed, hundreds have gone missing and thousands of others have been injured.
