Srinagar – The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) Wednesday decided to send a team of lawyers to examine condition of the detainees following reports about inhuman treatment being meted out to pro-freedom leaders in Jammu jails.
After acquiring permission from the High Court of the occupied territory, the team will leave for Jammu on October 5.
We have got permission from the High Court to visit all the Jammu jails to examine the condition of the incarcerated persons, HCBA Joint Secretary, Advocate Shabbir Ahmad Butt told a Srinagar-based daily.
He said the team would prepare a detailed report about the condition of the prisoners, which would be made public.
The team will be led by HCBA newly elected President and senior lawyer, Zaffar Qureshi.
The High Court has directed the jail authorities concerned to allow the lawyers to interact with the detainees under their custody.
Many pro-freedom groups have recently complained of mistreatment to Kashmiri detainees in Jammu jails, Mushtaq-ul-Islam and Masarrat Aalam Butt.
