Centre approached for special concessions to J&K
Srinagar: To overcome the scarcity of LPG the Government will establish 65 new outlets in the rural areas. The LPG outlets will be opened in 65 blocks of the State with a population of 4000 and potential of 60 connections.
This was announced by the Minister for Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) Qamar Ali Akhoon in the House while replying on the special discussion on LPG. Elaborating the measures initiated by the Government to regulate the supply of LPG after the new policy introduced by the Central Government, the Minister said that Government has convened a series of meetings with the dealers of gas agencies and issued them necessary instruction to ensure smooth supply of gas and verification of document should not become impediment in the supply. The agencies have been directed to display the rates of cylinders and gas supply position in their outlets visibly.
Regarding special concession to the consumers for getting more than sanctioned LPG cylinders, the Minister said that State Government has taken up the issue with the Central Government and requested them to have a sympathetic view become of its peculiar situation and topography where people solely depend on the LPG. He said State Government is in constant touch with the Central leadership and hopeful to get some relief for the consumers.
He said Government was aware about the problems of consumers and every possible step will be taken for their welfare. In order to enhance the stocking capacity of LPG to meet the additional requirements during the winter in the valley, the Minister said that Government of India has agreed for upgrading the existing bottling plant at Pampore. Similarly, as a long term measures, the State Government has convinced the Centre for establishing a separate gas pipe line from Gujarat to Jammu and Kashmir. The ground work for this project has been completed, the Minister maintained.
