Pampore – In a bid to access the implementation of the of National Mission on Saffron, parliamentarian, Mehboob Beigh Saturday said, saffron production can be best achieved by resorting to modern technology.
The member Parliament while visiting the Saffron fields of Chandhara Pampore to review the Implementation of National Mission on saffron said Kashmir Saffron is known as the worlds best Saffron, but growers need to restore its originality.
During Interaction with the farmers he impressed upon them to adopt scientific technology for production and productivity of Saffron that will lead to their economic upliftment. He advised the farmers to strictly adhere the technical advice disseminated by the Agriculture Department. He said that Rs 372 Crore National Mission on Saffron is aimed to increase production, maintain quality, and improve marketing facilities to the saffron growers. He directed the Officers /Officials of the Agriculture Department to put their efforts and utilize the modern technology in boasting production and enhance the quality of saffron.
On the Occasion District Agriculture Officer Inputs apprised Member Parliament that during ensuing year approximately 850 hectare of saffron land has been brought under rejuvenation. He said construction of 50 bore wells at the cost of Rs 10 Crores has been completed besides, 165 vermicompost units will be established for which Rs 49.50 lacs incentive will be provided to the farmers. In order to accomplish the targets, nearly 200 officers/officials have been deployed to keep vigil for successful implementation of the programme. The Farmers of the area have expressed satisfaction about the implementation of mission by Agriculture department. (Observer Reporter)
