Srinagar, Sept 26: Water entered the only floating post office in the world famous Dal lake, making it non functional.
The floating post office was inaugurated on August 23 by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to provide postal facilities to tourists and locals, residing on the Lake.
This morning people at Nehru Park were surprised to see half sunk wooden houseboat, being used as floating post office, after water had entered it.
The houseboat is sinking slowly as water could be seen from windows clearly.
The office record and other equipment have been damaged, official sources said.
This has now become an attraction for tourists and locals who came to visit the area since this morning. Immediately after starting ‘Tourist Post Office’ in Leh in Ladakh region, the floating post office was inaugurated in the Lake.
The floating post office facility was available in the lake untill early 90s but was closed due to diminishing tourism due to unfavourable and disturbing circumstances and finally came to a end.
After reopening of the Floating Post Office-cum-Museum in Lake, it became a unique facility to provide services to the tourists and Dal dwellers. It offered varied functions of a post office, post shop, post office Museum and mobile collection and delivery of mail. Agencies
