Srinagar, Sep 26: President Pranab Mukherjee arrived here today on a three-day visit during which he will attend the 18th convocation of Kashmir University.
He was received at Srinagar airport by Governor N N Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Prof. Saifudin Soz and top rank officers of civil, police and army.
Tight security cover has been thrown around the capital for Mukherjee’s visit, the first to Srinagar after he took over as President on July 25 this year.
Mukherjee will attend the convocation of Kashmir University which is taking place after a gap of over three years on Thursday.
The previous convocation was held in June 2009 with Vice-President Hamid Ansari in attendance.
During the convocation, a total of 214 gold and silver medals will be awarded to students for topping their respective disciplines in the past three years.
Mukherjee will also make his presence Dargah Hazrabtal Shrine. He is expected to meet with the leaders of opposition during his three day visit in Kashmir.
