Enthralling voices, verses keep audience spellbound on Dal banks
Srinagar – As part of series of programmes on Kashmiri folk heritage, Dhanak Rang, that began today at the Zabarwan Park on the banks of the Dal Lake, prominent folk singers, Abdur Rashid Haafiz, Abdul Gaffar Kanihami and Abdul Salam Qaimoh kept the audience spellbound through their voice and verses of celebrated poets.
Besides famous folk singers, National Bhand Paether also performed on the occasion. Artists received great applause from the audience.
Organised by the Academy of Art, Culture & Languages with assistance from Department of Information, the programme evinced lot of interest of people including tourists who had come in large number to witness the rainbow of Kashmiri folk culture.
Dhanak Rang is celebration of Kashmiri folk and will travel through important tourist places of Kashmir including Manasbal, Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Nigeen Club, to enthral and introduce people, especially tourists, to the rich folk heritage of Kashmir. Different sets of singers and performers will show their talent at these places.
The next programme will be held on September 27 at Manasbal Park at 1 P.M. where folk singers Ghulam Mohammad Ahangar, Mohammad Yusuf Chrari, Ghulam Mohammad Kawa and Manasbal Folk Theatre will perform.
At Pahalgam, Gulmarg and Nigeen Club the folk programmes will be held on September 29, October 1 and October 3, respectively. Singers Ghulam Nabi Bhat Faisal, Farooq Ahmad Ganai, Gulzar Ganai and Ghulam Nabi Bulbul and artists of Bhagat Theatre, Aziz Folk Theatre and Qazi Theatre will perform at the three venues.
Dhanak Rang will come to a close at SKICC on October 5 at 6 P.M with icing on the cake – Án Evening of Ghazals. Top Ghazal singers including Waheed Jeelani, Qaisar Nizami, Qazi Rafi, Sham Sajan, Deepali Wattal and Munir Mir will perform before an invited audience.
