Srinagar – Two militants and a solider were killed in an encounter in Handwara area of frontier Kupwara district on Tuesday.
Police said two unidentified militants and one Army personnel were killed in an encounter between Police and 30 Rashtriya Rifles in Handwara.
During the intervening night of September 24 and 25 police alongwith 30-RR launched a search operation in village Haril Manzpora, Handwara. The militants fired upon the search party which was retaliated triggering an encounter in which two militants were killed, a police spokesperson said in a statement.
Army personnel Jawan Sandeep Kumar of 30 RR also lost his life in the encounter. Police claimed to have recovered two AK 47 rifles and six AK magazines from the slain militants.
The search operation was still going on when the reports last came in, police said.
