Srinagar – Government Degree College Shopian Monday reached the final of 7th Prof Yousuf Memorial Cricket tournament after defeating Degree College Baramullah in the nail biting semi final clash here at the Islamia College of Science and Commerce.
After winning the toss GDC Shopian elected to field first.GDC Baramullah scored 138 runs in allotted 30 overs. Aijaz Ahmad scored 34 runs in 32 deliveries and Muhammad Amin scored 22 in 20 deliveries.
For GDC Shopian, Shahnawaz claimed three while as Afaq Ahmad claimed two wickets.
Chasing a modest target, GDC Shopian players lost nine wickets to achieve the score of 139 runs in 25 overs. Mansoor and Shahnawaz contributed with 22 and 21 runs respectively. Khurshid Ahmad and Majid claimed two wickets each for GDC Baramullah
Shahnawaz of GDC Shopian was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.
The Second Semi-Finals will on Tuesday be played between last years champion team Gandhi Memorial College and Islamia College Alumni team.
The Tournament is being organised by the Department of Physical Education Islamia College of Science and Commerce and is being sponsored by the J & K Cricket Association. ( Observer News service)
