Srinagar – In the final match of the JK bagged second Sub Junior Cricket championship, Jammu and Kashmir cricket defeated Manipur here on Monday.
After putting up a brilliant show in the league stage and the knock out matches, JK played out standing cricket at Madr-e-Meherban Stadium Ganderbal this afternoon and claimed the National Championship in style.
20 teams from different states of the country including JK, Minipur, Punjab, Rajastan, Utrakhand, Delhi, Maharashtra, Madya Pradesh, Chatisgarh and Tamil Nadu participated in the tournament.
Later on, the additional director general of police headquarters (ADGP) S.P. Vaid said that sports provide an opportunity to explore their talent in other fields of life.
Vaid, who was the chief guest at the function, said that sports play an important role in creating discipline and spirit to work together among the youth.
He said that it also boosts the talent among the sports person to excel in other fields, besides creating passion, valour to face ups and downs of the life.
He said that such activities have also helped in utilising the energies of the youth in the right direction and hone their talent.
He claimed that JKP organized various national and state level sports tournaments for promoting sports culture in the State Vaid distributed mementoes, certificates and trophies among the players and the organisers.
Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Mir Showket, ADC Abid Maqbool, SP Shahid Mehraj, president All India 15-15 Cricket Association Dilip Joshi, vice president Anil Kumar, Secretary V.P.Singh, president JK 15-15 Cricket Association Sheikh Ghulam Ahmad Saloora and senior officers from police and civil administration were also present on the occasion.
The Championship was organised by Jammu and Kashmir 15-15 Cricket Association.
