Jammu – Spelling out benefits of Yoga for leading a healthy and harmonious life, Minister for Medical Education and Sports, Mr R S Chib today exhorted people, especially those having public dealings, to practice it for keeping stress at bay, taking quick and better decisions based on compassion and maintaining a better rapport with all those they come across.
Speaking at the valedictory function of a 4-day training camp for Scouts and Guides here today, the Minister, who is President of J&K Bharat Scouts and Guides, said Yoga helps a human being to control his temper and to respond to the needs of others with a quick sense of responsibility.
Being organized by J&K Scouts and Guides Association, the objective of the camp was to impart training to Scouts and guides in Yoga, first aid, signaling besides enthusing in them high ethos for their quality upbringing. About 20 schools participated in the camp.
Chib said Yoga has proved beneficial for the people to defy stress and lead a healthy and harmonious life. He urged politicians to practice Yoga for meeting the challenges with fortitude and compassion thus helping themselves serve the humanity in a better way. He also advised the students to adopt meditation as an instrument to shape their lives into a responsible and good citizens.
The Minister appreciated the Association for holding such an informative and educative camp for young scouts and guides of the region which will immensely help them to create a better world to live in.
Such events are the need of hour as the whole world is lurching in chaos and confusion struggling for worldly pleasures and have forgotten the human values, the base of their existence, he maintained. He stressed on the need for intensifying such movements to weed out social evils from the society.
Describing student age as perfect time to imbibe the spirit of service to the society and love for the nation, the Minister emphasized the need for involving more and more schools in such movement to channelize the energies of youngsters in a constructive manner. He reminded youth of their duties towards the society and said that they have to work to eschew the tendencies of hatred and intolerance which are not in consonance with the high traditions of Indian ethos.
The Minister said that scouting inculcates in students a sense of discipline and duties towards the society. The students have the ability and vibrancy to give new colours to the social, political and economic profile of the society so they need to be nurtured in a right perspective, he maintained.
The Minister said that such universally acknowledged movements can do wonders in educating the society about their rights and responsibilities. He asked the organisers to develop patriotism and respect for human values among the students so that they can contribute their services towards the cause of the society.
