Kathua – Department of Agriculture in Collaboration with Bastmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) Merrut today organised one day workshop on Good Agriculture Practices for Production of Export Quality Basmati Rice with participation of over two hundred farmers from across the border district.
MLA, Kathua Charanjit Singh was the chief guest, while DDC, Kathua Ms. Zahida Parveen Khan was the guest of honour.
Joint Director Department of Agriculture Dr. S. S. Jamwal, Executive Director All India Rice exporters Association Rajan Sudershan, senior scientist BDEF Meerut Dr. Ritesh Sharma, Chief agriculture Officer, Kathua Bipan Sambyal , Scientist from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua attended the workshop.
Chief Agricultural Officer, Kathua Bipan Sambyal welcomed the guests and the farmers.
Speaking on the occasion MLA Charanjit Singh applauded the department for organising such a guiding workshop and asked the farmers to use superior seeds and scientific methods to produce export quality Bastimati rice . He also suggested the farmers to increase the seeds replacement ratio for better agriculture growth.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that farmers have remained the backbone of the Indian economy from the ancient times adding that there was time when the country import the food grains from outside but with the hard and untiring efforts of agriculture institutions and farmer community it has became self reliant in food production and even export to other countries . she asked the farmer community to take maximum benefits of the experience of the experts who will deliver lectures on technical knowhow to produce Bastimati rice of international quality.
Joint Director Agriculture Department Dr. S.S. Jamwal, while addressing the farmers, appealed them to take the benefit of workshop for the production of exportable quality of Bastmati Rice.
During the workshop the experts from agriculture department, scientists from other states and KVK, Kathua shared their experiences with the farmers. They suggested the ways and means for the production of exportable quality of Bastmati rice.
Dr. Ritesh Sharma, from BDEF Meerut, gave a detailed account of the process for purification and production of bastmati seeds, while Dr, B.C Sharma elaborated on integrated nutrients and water management .Dr. Vishal Sharma gave lecture on the judicious use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers so that the agriculture produce may meet the international standards of chemical contents . Dr. A K Yadav, Director National centre for organic farming Ghaziabad, made the farmers aware about the farmers need and importance of the organic farming.
Later an interactive session between the scientists and farmers was also held.
