Srinagar, Sept 22: The health wing of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to the authorities of Kashmirs solitary maternity care facility, Lal Ded Hospital, asking them to improve the hygienic conditions of its kitchen. It has also summoned the proprietors of various hotels and restaurants in the uptown Jawahar Nagar area directing them to make adequate arrangements for health and hygiene in their premises.
According to reports, a special squad comprising Riyaz Chaudhary and Shahid Asrar, food inspectors of the SMCs health wing raided the LD Hospital to see the conditions of its kitchen where food for indoor patients is cooked. They were shocked to see the stink emanating from it. They found its sewage and sewerage system too was inadequate.
The SMC authorities issued a notice to the hospital authorities asking them to refurbish the kitchen forthwith to ensure the inmates were served healthy and hygienic food.
Later, the squad raided some nearby hotels and restaurants and allegedly found the conditions of their kitchens appalling. The officials asked their owners to improve the conditions early or face action under law. (KNS)
