Srinagar – Several physically challenged persons sitting on a dharna in the Press Enclave here to press their demands were rushed to hospital when their condition deteriorated in the second day of their protest sit-in.
Talking to reporters before being packed in an ambulance, the president of the Association of Physically Challenged Persons, Abdul Rasheed Bhat, said the government had failed to fulfill the assurances held out by the chief minister last year in the wake of their hunger strike.
He said Omar Abdullah had directed constitution of a Handicapped Advisory Board and a Co-ordination Committee to undertake quarterly review of the pace of implementation of the assurances given to the less fortunate lot. However, no action has been taken on it, which has compelled the physically challenged persons to stage a sit-in.
