SRINAGAR – A civilian and a policeman were killed on Wednesday while another cop sustained injuries in a militant attack in Sopore town of Baramulla district.
Militants opened fire upon a police team in Warpora locality of Sopore this evening leaving a special police officer (SPO) and a civilian dead, officials said. Another policeman identified as Showkat Ahmad Khanday of Kreeri was injured in the shootout. The injured cop was removed to the hospital for treatment.
Officials identified the deceased as SPO Wajahat Ahmad of Kreeri and Umar Subhan of Warpora.
Soon after the attack, additional reinforcements were rushed to the area to nab the attackers. The state forces, reports said cordoned off the area and started searches.
Meanwhile, militants ambushed an army patrol in Chadoora area of central Kashmir’s Budgam district.
According to reports, militants fired upon a patrolling party of army’s 50 RR near Zenipora village this afternoon. The army returned the fire triggering off a gun-battle.
“The exchange of gunfire continued for few minutes before the militants escaped from the spot,” report added.
