On to You Mr Chief Minister

Unacceptable, intolerable, heinous, excruciating, and condemnable, likewise words keep on comming from you Mr chief minister whenever innocents fell to the bullets of your security forces.

Kashmir has been once again thrown into the state of despondency and dejection with gloominess everywhere. Ever since its incorporation, the people of Kashmir have been witnessing unhappiness and distress for no fault of theirs. This heavenly piece of land has turned into a bog that in engulfing its own people. The fact that Kashmir is the bone of contention between the India and Pakistan has been the biggest misfortune for its people. Quite often the people are subjected to inhuman treatment with less or no concern shown for them. A new spate of violence has subjected Kashmiris to be caged in their homes and as usual their voices have been muzzled, following the threat that their anger may result in adverse situation ahead. The annoyance and fury has been generated by the death of four unarmed civilians fighting for their privileges and human rights. How long will imposing curfews, resorting to heavy firing of bullets, pellets and tear gas would keep these heart-wrenched people away from getting their rights honoured? There seems to be no end to the desolation. This ferocity and vehemence against administration if not brought under control would explode like anything and could result in more devastation and destruction. As of now the ongoing bloodshed continues to haunt and irk the souls of the people, so does it alleviate their misery and melancholy.

All the voices raised against the inhuman, brutal and merciless attitude of the government seem to have been unheard. But not too long would this practice help the government to escape from being accountable. The government needs to clarify its stand on its steps taken towards ensuring peace and calm.

Mr. Chief Minister this is the voice of an ordinary Kashmiri who wants to know that whether there are any human rights for him that he can enjoy without getting killed at the hands of security forces? Why is he imprisoned time and again within his abode for the ineffectiveness of the law and order enforcement agencies? What is the relevance of the so called “constitutional rights” for him? How can he survive and meet his both ends when the entire valley is clamped under curfew with no room for movement? How is going to feed his family when there is nothing in store for him? How can he make better use of his education when he seldom gets any opportunity to prove his talent for lack of employment opportunities? Mr. Chief Minister you came in with a lot of promises and brought about a ray of hope for the people of this disputed territory. But like others your government too failed to stand up to the expectations. Instead it generated abhorrence, detestation and disgust among the people with the continuous incidents of unprovoked firing, human rights violation, unwarranted arrests, unfair behaviour, baseless explanations, and groundless excuses. It was your government in the year 2010 when nearly 120 people were killed under your authority and the cry for justice again went unheard. No one was even tried or punished. It were you who raised hopes for the removal of the draconian AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Power Act), but till now this dream hasn’t turned into reality and the possibility of which seems to be going bleak with every passing day. It was your government which assured 80,000 fast track recruitments, but this too turned out to be a fairy tale. Mr. Chief Minister, it were you who told that it is quite unfortunate and worrying that educated youth have started to join ultras, but have you ever thought of the reason behind this? No, how come? You don’t have that much of time to care for your people. Instead what you have in your hand is to give unbridled powers to the police so, that they could crush the voices and ensure uneasy calm. Moreover it was under your rule, the SMS services were banned and are till now in the same state for prepaid customers. Hasn’t there been any improvement in the overall conditions that the said service should have been resumed? What do you boast of then? There is an ample list of happenings that were experienced for the first time by the people of Kashmir under your rule. Even it was your government which banned internet usage and gauged the newspapers so that no one could have any idea of what is happening around. It is so unfortunate that we have such a system in place that seems to be against our aspirations instead of being in its favour!!!

Leaving all other things aside, do you think that the ex-gratia released in favour of those who have died is sufficient for their families? How come a family would cope the death of its beloved son who was the only hope for their old age? Whom would you employ to serve them in place of their son? How would a father shoulder the dead body of his son who was still blooming in his teen age? How come a mother would be able to bear the shock of his beloved son’s death who always prays for his long life and is ready to die for him at every moment? Mr. Chief Minister, it was easy to say what you said on your pre-arrival, but so far now you must have got a clear understanding that it is not so easy to step into the shoes of the head of the state. Your duties and responsibilities get infinitely multiplied and moreover the expectations of the people. Until now ample bloodshed has been done, but still the hopes of common man refuse to die down. It should be the last unfortunate incident under your authority if you really care for the people and your first step should be to fulfil all your promises besides maintaining peace and calm in the state, where no one gets killed for exercising his basic rights. You need to show humility, compassion and respect towards people if you still dream of being the head of the state. Just hoping for a better and prosperous future is useless, likewise mere words do not work; you should act in that direction with heart and spirit. May be someday we could see our Kashmir the same way we want it to be. Remember millions of people have trusted you, now it is your turn to repay them with best, not worst.
