SRINAGAR – Taking cognisance of illegal constructions in the city Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has formed a Special Task Force to launch a crackdown on encroachers and land mafia in coming days.
According to reports, SMC has taken strong cognizance of illegal constructions galore in Srinagar district since August, 5 when New Delhi scrapped special status of Jammu and Kashmir which was accorded under Article 370.
Sources said, “After abrogation of Article 370, some influential persons have constructed residential houses, industrial units and shopping complexes in several parts of Srinagar taking undue advantage of situation”. They added, SMC has taken strong notice of such constructions which have been set up illegally and has decided to come up with a full-fledged demolition drive in coming days”.
“The department is going to bull doze all such constructions which have come up illegally during the months of August, September and October with an aim to bring violators to justice”, sources said.
“SMC Commissioner had already passed directions to Chief Enforcement Officer (CEO) in this regard who has collected details about illegal constructions in their respective areas”.“CEO has been directed to submit comprehensive note about how many structures have got proper permission from authorities since August 5”, they said.
Sources said, “At this juncture complaints by public have also been taken into account and further course of action has been drafted by SMC officials”. They said “During August, September and October, several constructions made within the peripheries of Srinagar have been found illegal having no prior permission from SMC authorities”.
Sources within the SMC say that “The department has made a final list of violators and soon a strict action will be initiated against them”. They added “SMC in days to come will start a demolition drive in Srinagar city”.
According to SMC sources, several batches of Special Task Force (STF) have been constituted and they will have assistance of JKPolice and other forces to avoid any intervention in the drive. KNS
