SRINAGAR: In a big swoop, the Pulwama police has arrested 11 persons said to be involved in running a narcotics racket in South Kashmir for the past two months.
Two persons, including a woman, were said to be on the run.
Narcotic substances like fikki, charas, addictive and prescription drug Codiene worth lakhs of rupees, were seized during the operation, besides a Maruti van used by the accused, the police said.
The accused had been operating an organised network in the Pulwama town and surrounding areas, and the police went into action after persistent public complaints, the station house officer (SHO) in the area, Aamir Iqbal, said.
The network was broken on a tip-off which led the police to kingpin Gul Bhat and his associate, Danish Nazir, both from the Kulpora area of the town, the police officer said.
Nine others were picked up after their questioning, he said.
A woman identified as Hajra Begum, and another gang member, Muhammad Yousuf, also from Kulpora, have gone absconding to evade arrest, he said.
The gang has been booked under sections 8/22 and 8/20 of the NDPS Act, he said.
