JAMMU: The Minister for Higher Education, Mr. Muhammad Akbar Lone today said that a Project Monitoring and Coordination Cell (PMCC) would be constituted in Higher Education Department to oversee development of infrastructure, including College buildings.
Chairing a high level meeting convened to review the status of work on various college buildings in Jammu region, the Minister asked the executing agencies, the Roads and Buildings Department and Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) to complete the works in a time bound manner. He said the process for the constitution of the Monitoring Cell would be soon started which would have experts and planners as members.
Lone directed the executing agencies to speed up the pace of work on under construction college buildings and other allied infrastructure to ensure completion in a time bound manner. He warned that any lapses on the part of the department or executing agencies will not be tolerated and stern action under rules shall be initiated against the erring officials.
The Minister directed the concerned to complete the construction work on Rs 2.05 crore Auditorium of Government M. A. M. College, Jammu by ending April this year. He also directed PHE authorities to ensure replacement of the water pipes damaged due to construction of flyover at Government Women Colleges Gandhi Nagar within a weeks time for which Rs 6 lakh has already been released. He asked the PHE authorities to supply the water to the college through water tankers till the normal supply was restored. He also directed the R&B Department to complete the construction work of GCW Gandhinagar boundary wall by the end of this month, for which the government has already sanctioned Rs 60.78 lakhs.
While taking stock of functioning of the GGM Science College, Jammu and Amar Singh College, Srinagar, Mr. Lone directed for preparing comprehensive Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for conserving these colleges as heritage institutions of the State. In this pursuit, he asked the Higher Education Department to depute a team of officers and engineers for conducting survey and preparation of the reports so that the funds could be arranged accordingly.
