JammuThe Indian and Pakistani Army traded heavy fire on Wednesday along the dividing Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmirs Rajouri district. No damage or casualty was reported, but the firing created scare among the residents forcing scores of families to move to comparatively safer places.
The Pakistani Army targeted Indian positions on the LoC in the Nowshera sector, Defence Ministry spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said.
“Using small arms, automatics and mortars, they started unprovoked shelling and firing at 10.30 a.m. It is still going on. Indian troops are retaliating strongly and effectively,” Mehta said.
Schools closed near LoC
Reports said that fire and mortar shells were exchanged by the armies of both the countries in Kalsian, Bhawani and Baba Khori.
Reports said that some shells fired from across the border landed in civilian areas.
“As a precautionary measures, some educational institutions located near LoC in Kalal, Kalsian and Bhawani have been ordered closed,” said an official.
