Srinagar: J&K RTI Foundation conducted a Sensitization Program on RTI, as a part of its Celebration of RTI Month 2017, in collaboration with Government Degree College Tangdhar (Karnah) on Monday .
The celebration of RTI Month 2017 had begun with the physical inspection in different government departments under Section 2(i) of J&K RTI Act 2009 on March 1, 2017 and the RTI Day was celebrated on March 20, 2017 (8th Anniversary of J&K RTI Act 2009).
The motive of the program was to create awareness among faculty and students about various provisions of the act, said Principal Government Degree College Tangdhar, Prof. H.G. Mustafa.
Presentations were given on RTI by the speakers including Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Malik (Asst. Prof. Islamic Studies), Dr. Hashim Iqbal Malik (Asst. Prof. History), Akhtar Ali Khan (Secretary J&K RTI Foundation), Er. Irfan Banka (Chairman J&K RTI Foundation), Salahuddin Shah (Faculty) and other faculty members of the college.
Presenting a presentation on Uses and Abuses of RTI, Chairman J&K RTI Foundation, Er. Irfan Banka said, There is no misuse of RTI in the state so far. However there has been the indecent nature of RTI Applicants. Once the Section 4, Section 7 and Section 23 of J&K RTI Act 2009 are implemented, there will be no scope for discussions on misuse of RTI. We believe in proactive disclosure and mass awareness of the Act. Further we appreciate the order passed by State Chief Information Commissioner wherein he has given deadline to the PIOs for suo moto disclosure.
Principal Government Degree College Tangdhar, Prof. H.G. Mustafa presented an effective presentation on the laws which could bring transparency and accountability in the state. He said that we are publishing newsletter to disseminate information regarding our college and will organize RTI Awareness programs in future as well.
