SRINAGAR – Describing the coordinated attacks in Mumbai since Wednesday night as the worst form of terrorism, both pro-independence and pro-India parties in Kashmir have strongly deplored the heavy loss of life in the incidents, and issued forceful calls for an investigation.
The chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, has expressed sympathy and condolence to the families of the slain victims and said that the perpetrators were enemies of humanity.
Strongly condemning the Mumbai attacks, Geelani demanded a probe by some international agency to find out the truth.
The stand of the Hurriyat Conference is clear and explicit that we are against the killing of innocent people, Geelani said, adding that history would not forgive those who had killed innocent people by carrying out such attacks.
The chairman of the Hurriyat moderate faction, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, too, has strongly condemned the Mumbai attacks and conveyed his condolence to the families of the victims.
No religion permits the killing of innocent and blameless people, the Mirwaiz said, adding that whoever was involved did not diverse to be called human.
The Mirwaiz expressed fears that the attacks were the result of a deep-rooted conspiracy and demanded an inquiry into the incident to bring the guilty to book.
Condemning the bestiality in the strongest terms, the The Kashmiri American Council (KAC), a US based group of Kashmiri Americans pledged to contribute, in whatever form possible, to the rehabilitation effort of the affected families.
In a statement, Executive Director of KAC, Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, prayed that the authorities would pursue all reasonable efforts to investigate, apprehend, and punish those who are guilty of committing these reprehensible crimes against humanity.
Targeted victimization of innocents has no justification and encourages retribution from any and all quarters. To that end, the KAC hopes that all India’s citizenry allows for a cooling period and hopes that communal harmony prevails during this troubling time in Indias history.
Expressions of condolence with the victims families and demands for an impartial probe have also gone out from the acting chief of the Peoples League, Mukhatar Ahmad Waza, and the chairman of the Democratic Liberation Party, Hashim Qureshi.
In her message of condolence to the families of the Mumbai victims, the PDP president, Mahbooba Mufti, has called on the government to constitute a high-level committee to get to the bottom of the case and expose those involved immediately.
PDP Patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed also condemned the gruesome attacks in Mumbai. He said such gory acts are not only outrageous but inhuman as well.
In his condemnation, the president of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah, said that the perpetrators of the attack were the enemies of humanity, and that no religion condoned such heinous acts.
The state secretary of the CPI(M), Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami, too, has expressed deep grief and sorrow at the loss of life in the attacks and conveyed condolence to the families of those killed, demanding an inquiry into the incidents.
