Freedom Struggle Will Go On: DFP
Srinagar – Police Friday arrested the Democratic Freedom Party president, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, when he was on his way to south Kashmirs Islamabad district.
According to a party spokesman, Shah had to offer Friday and Eid-ul-Azha prayers in his home town, but was intercepted by a large contingent of police near Pampore.
Over the past two years, Shah was allowed to offer the Friday prayers only 11 times. With the todays house arrest, the overall period of his detention or house arrest has added up to eight months during the past two years.
By arresting separatist leaders, including Shabbir Ahmad Shah , the spokesman said, the freedom struggle would not lose its momentum but will be carries on with greater enthusiasm and vigor.
The arrests of separatist leaders will have a negative impact on the situation in the valley. Disallowing the leaders even to offer prayers is direct interference in the religious affairs of Muslims. This is highly condemnable, he said, adding they should be allowed to offer the Eid-ul- Azha prayers that comes only once in a year.
Criticizing the arrest of their chairman, the party spokesman said it was highly unjust and a blot on the so called democracy.
By arresting our leader the authorities are trying to suppress the freedom movement. They want to scare away the people from pursuing the cause of freedom, the spokesman said.
But these detentions and house arrests hardly matter for a freedom lover. History is witness to the fact that whenever and wherever the authorities tried to suppress freedom struggle, every tactic failed. In fact, the freedom is infused with much vigor, he said.
The spokesman said intimidation, house arrests, detentions and harassment had never stopped the freedom movement and would never stop it in the future. Kashmir has offered sacrifice of over five lakh precious souls for freedom besides suffering unparalleled tribulations which will bear fruit one day, he said.
He said India should bear in mind that by selecting puppet governments for the state, it will find no solution to the Kashmir issue. Right to self-determination is the birth right of every Kashmiri and the nation will not stop till it attains the right, he said.
