Srinagar – A 25-year old woman identified as Rifat wife of Meraj-ud-din of Lane 15, Maharajpora, Firdous Abaad, Batmaloo, here committed suicide while her husband suffered burn injuries on Wednesday night, police said, adding a case had been registered and investigation launched.
According to reports, Rifat allegedly sprinkled kerosene oil on her body and suffered burns. She was rushed to the SMHS hospital where she succumbed to her injuries having suffered 100 per cent burns. Her husband, Meraj-ud-din, also suffered burns but is out of danger.
Police said a case had been registered under section 309 RPC (suicide) vide FIR No 119/12 at Police Station, Batmaloo and investigation started. However, no arrest has been made so far, it said, adding the reason behind the extreme step was being ascertained.
In a separate incident, police recovered the body of Haseena wife of Jalal-ud-din of Wani Dorus (Lolab) in the border district of Kupwara from a field last night. A case has been registered under section 174 RPC and investigation started. (With additional inputs from KMN)
