‘Opportunity To Share J&K’s Achievements, To Showcase Its Rich Cultural Heritage’
Jammu– The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting here to discuss the preparations for the upcoming G20 Summit meetings to be held in the Union Territory next year.
Calling for extensive preparations ahead of the G20 meet, Sinha said that the meetings under India’s presidency is also an opportunity to share Jammu Kashmir’s achievements and to showcase its rich cultural heritage.
In the meeting that was attended by Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department RK Goyal, Special Director General (CID) RR Swain, Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture Production Department Atal Dulloo, the LG also called for involving students and educational institutions to make the meetings a grand success.
Besides, Sinha also instructed the Higher Education Department to conduct seminars on G20 in the Universities and educational institutions across the UT.
Administrative Secretaries; Divisional Commissioners, senior officers of Police and Civil Administration attended the meeting, in person and through video conferencing at Civil Secretariat, and also shared their valuable suggestions.
In June this year, the LG-led dispensation had established a five-member high level committee for overall coordination in connection with hosting of G-20 meetings in J&K in 2023.
J&K’s housing and urban development department principal secretary was appointed chairman of the committee which was formed in response to a June 4 communication from the Ministry of External Affairs.
Four other members included Commissioner Secretary (Transport), Administrative Secretary (Tourism), Administrative Secretary (Hospitality and Protocol) and Administrative Secretary (Culture).
This will be the first major international summit to be held in Jammu and Kashmir after the erstwhile state’s special status guaranteed under Article 370 of the Constitution was withdrawn and it was divided into two union territories in August 2019.
G20 brings together 19 of the world’ leading economies and the European Union, with its members accounting for more than 80 per cent of global GDP, 75 percent of global trade and 60 percent of the global population, according to the MEA.
The G20 member nations are Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States.
