Srinagar- Calligraphy enthusiasts thronged Mahatta Art Gallery to get familiar with the art of calligraphy. The day-long calligraphy workshop was part of the ongoing week-long Exhibition on Arbaeen at Mahatta Art Gallery.
The Art, Photography and Calligraphy exhibition has attracted the attention of Art lovers who thronged the exhibition from the day it commenced on Wednesday.
Yawar Abbas, a student of 12th class came all the way from Budgam to witness the calligraphic works at the exhibition.
“I have been trying to write calligraphic works but this exhibition has encouraged and motivated me. I will try to learn and put more effort into learning more about calligraphy” Yawar said.
Organizers say the event envisions bringing together children, parents and other educationalists from different disciplines to feel the essence of mourning Imam Hussain (A.S) in Kashmir.
Mohammad Afzal, a pass out of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages have been doing calligraphic works since years.
He developed interest towards calligraphy through an Urdu magazine. He says he could not miss the opportunity of showcasing his work at the Mahattas.
“Different groups of people including students are showing interest in calligraphy, this is heartwarming. The kind of interest young people are showing in calligraphy is more than ever before”
“It is pleasing to teach them calligraphic skills but one day is a small duration and it takes years to learn this art” Afzal said.
A special session named “Mashq e Hussain” was held wherein large number of visitors wrote the name of Imam Hussain (as) using traditional Qalam and Ink .
The event also saw the participation of some tourists.
Ilyas Rizvi, organizer of the event said that the Artists and Calligraphers have blended fine Art with Calligraphy to pay tributes to the Karbala martyrs.
“the event has been organized to pay tribute to the martyrs of Karbala and remember their sacrifices they made for the sake of humanity. Imam Hussain unites every race and community to work for the welfare of humanity”, Ilyas said.
