Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir administration has constituted a high-level committee to address challenges related to the devolution of functions, functionaries, and funds to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in the Union Territory, as mandated by the 74th Constitutional Amendment Act.
As per a government GAD order, the committee will be chaired by the Chief Secretary of J&K and will include key administrative secretaries from the Finance, Housing & Urban Development, General Administration, and other concerned departments, along with the Commissioners of Srinagar and Jammu Municipal Corporations.
The committee has been tasked with identifying and resolving issues hindering the effective empowerment of ULBs.
It will recommend measures to streamline the devolution process and financially optimize the transfer of responsibilities.
The Housing & Urban Development Department will provide secretarial support to the committee, which is expected to submit its report at the earliest.
