
SRINAGAR- Hailing from Bijbehara, Anantnag, Shariq Majeed has defied all odds to make his mark in cricket. Despite being deaf and mute from birth, his passion and dedication have propelled him to incredible heights, as his talent has been recognised by the Indian Deaf Cricket Association.
On December 26, Shariq, a talented batter, was named to the India T20 Deaf Cricket Team for the upcoming international T20 tri-series involving Australia and South Africa. The series will begin from March 2 till March 8 in New Delhi.
The Indian deaf team has been undergoing extensive training in preparation for the tournament. After this, the team will play a three-match ODI series against Australia from March 10 to 12.
Apart from Shariq Majeed, another J&K deaf cricketer has made the team. Umar Ashraf, a wicketkeeper batter, from Srinagar is also in the team.
