
Srinagar- Multi-tier security arrangements would be put in place for the smooth conduct of the Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir, Inspector General of Police V K Birdi said here on Tuesday.
The main Republic Day function will take place in Jammu which will be presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as the chief guest.
“The security preparations for January 26 are in full swing. Multi-tier security arrangements will be in place so that the people will enjoy the function and parade,” the IGP said.
In the Kashmir valley, the main event is scheduled at Bakshi Stadium here where deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary will preside over the function.
“Sanitization and area domination exercises are being carried out by security personnel to ensure the safety of the people,” an official said.
“The security has been beefed up in 20 districts, particularly in the border areas. Enhanced security measures, include road blockades, vehicle checks, security cordons, and search operations,” the official added.
He said there is an extensive deployment of police and paramilitary forces along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC). “Senior officers have reviewed security arrangements in sensitive border areas to ensure effective coordination between various agencies,” he added.
“To further bolster security, advanced surveillance technologies, including drones and high-resolution CCTV cameras, have been deployed to monitor event venues and surrounding areas,” he said, adding that checkpoints have been set up in Srinagar and other district headquarters, particularly at key entry points.
“Random vehicle checks and frisking operations are being conducted to prevent the movement of subversive elements,” he added.

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, V K Bidhuri, Tuesday assured that this year’s Republic Day celebrations will be more organized and enjoyable, with arrangements surpassing those of last year.
Bidhuri highlighted the meticulous planning undertaken to ensure a smooth event. “We have taken last year as our benchmark and improved upon it. Special attention has been given to seating arrangements, with comfortable chairs set up for attendees. Additionally, high-quality LED screens have been installed to enhance the experience for everyone,” he said.
He further said that refreshments will be provided, keeping in mind the cold winter mornings. “We have ensured that all necessary arrangements are in place for the comfort of the participants,” he added.
He also urged the relevant authorities to ensure adequate heating arrangements for guests and enjoined the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to deploy mobile toilets at the venue.
Bidhuri invited everyone to join the celebrations and take part in what he called “their own festival.”
“There are no passes or restrictions. The event is completely free for all, and everyone is welcome to attend. I urge the public to participate wholeheartedly,” he stated.
