Srinagar- The Meteorological department (MeT) has predicted no wet spell till December 20.
Director MeT, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that on December 16 & 17, the weather would remain generally while from December 18-20th, the cloudy weather is expected in Jammu and Kashmir.
Moreover, the MeT in its advisory has stated that the cold & dry weather will generally prevail over many stations during the next 5 days. “In view of fresh snowfall, sub-freezing temperature & icy conditions over roads of important passes and higher reaches, the tourists, travelers and transporters are advised to follow administration and traffic advisory,” the advisory reads.
As per the data prepared by MeT, till December 11, the deficit precipitation has gone further up to 75 per cent across Jammu and Kashmir from October 01, 2024 to December 11, 2024.
The highest deficit has been recorded in Shopian with 96 per cent followed by Poonch with 95 per cent and Kulgam and Budgam with 94 percent and 92 percent.
Srinagar has recorded a deficit rainfall of 85 percent. However, Samba is the only place across J&K where above normal rainfall has been recorded as against the normal precipitation of 20.7 mm, the station has recorded a precipitation of 47 mm during the period.
In Kupwara, the lowest deficit rainfall of only 38 per cent during the period, the data reads.
