Srinagar- Police on Saturday arrested a father-son duo on charges of timber smuggling in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Acting on specific information about timber smuggling, a police party led by SHO Police Station Uri raided the house of Khan Mohammad at Kundi Barjala village in Kamalkote, a police spokesperson said Saturday.
During the search, he said, 93 CFt illicit forest timber and 7 kilogram of poppy straw-like substance was recovered.
Khan and his son Shawair Ahmad, the spokesperson said, tried to flee but were apprehended tactfully by the alert police party.
“They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Uri and investigations have been initiated,” he added.
