Srinagar- Police on Friday claimed to have arrested two youth under stringent sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) act for kidnapping and sexually assaulting minor girls in Srinagar.
Police said the accused were arrested following a complaint by the parents of the victims (name withheld), alleging therein that the accused after kidnapping the victims, sexually assaulted them.
A police official said the investigation was taken up as soon as the complaint was received and both the accused were arrested, who are presently lodged at Lal Bazar police station.
A formal case FIR No. 41 of 2023 under sections 363, 376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and (3) (Penetrative Sexual Assault) and (4) (Punishment for Penetrative Sexual Assault) under Protection of Children from Sexual Offense (POCSO) act Lal Bazar police station.
Police have identified the accused as Hilal Ahmad Rather (24) son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather of Hygam Sopore and Shabir Ahmad Mir (30) of Ghulam Mohammad Mir of Kreeri area in Baramulla.
The arrest comes less than twenty four hours after a middle aged man was arrested under similar POCSO act for raping a 15-years old minor girl in Srinagar.
Police said the accused; a 46-years old man was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl, who is also said to be his relative. The accused has been identified as Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh of Kanthpora, Sogam area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Earlier a 22-years old youth was arrested for allegedly raping his 12-years old minor relative at old Barzulla area in the uptown Srinagar on Wednesday.
Police identified the accused as Zaid Feroz son of Feroz Ahmad of Old Barzulla.
