J&K LG Presents Saffron Bouquet To PM Modi

Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha presented a special gift of Saffron bouquet from the people of the Union Territory to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to mark the festivities of good saffron harvest this year.

Sinha, who is also the Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir, presented the gift to the PM, a University spokesperson said.

He said that Advanced Research Station for Saffron & Seed Spices (ARSSSS) of SKUAST-Kashmir has played a pivotal role in bringing this revolutionary Indoor Saffron Cultivation Technology.

He said that Financial Commissioner (Agriculture) Atal Dullo on a recent visit to the Station appreciated the efforts of the University and directed the concerned department for its large scale promotion in the UT.

“The Indoor Saffron Technology is a climate resilient, highly remunerative which will usher an economic growth of saffron farmers and in providing a multifold increase in adopting Saffron cultivation as a novel entrepreneurship opportunity,” the spokesperson said.

He said that the technology is a robust production system which has a potential to withstand the growing pressures on dwindling land resources due to extended urbanization, industrial development amid growing population.

“Vice Chancellor of the varsity Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganie stressed upon the Scientists to scale up the innovation with possibility of doing indoor saffron cultivation technology across the Indian sub-continent,” the spokesperson added.
